July 19, 2012 Harn Museum 11 a.m. - noonView the textiles in
Verdant Earth and Teeming Seas and enjoy weaving demonstrations by Santusa Quispe de Flores and Eleuteria Flores, Unay Pallay Association of Indigenous Weavers of Candelaria, Bolivia.
July 21st Harn Museum Gallery Talk and Artist Q and A: 1 p.m. Alisa Woofter, owner of Alternatives Global Market Place and former Peace Corps volunteer in Candelaria, Bolivia will speak about weaving, the local culture of Candelaria, and how the Unay Pallay weaving cooperative provides economic opportunities that foster traditional skills. Santusa Quispe de Flores and Eleuteria Flores will answer questions through a translator. This event is supported by the Creative B Program and Earth Bound, a local non-profit assisting indigenous artisans.
July 22nd Alternatives Global Marketplace Weaving Demonstration and Textile Exhibit Noon- 5p.m. Santusa Quispe de Flores and Eleuteria Flores will be demonstrating their weaving on their traditional oblique frame loom. They will also exhibit their traditional handcrafts and answer any questions. Refreshments will be served.
