2:30 p.m. Encaustic Presentation by Local Artist Debra Lindberg
3:00-5:00 Try your Hand at Block Printing with Local Artist Kristine Sullivan Block Printing Woodblock printing on textiles is the process of printing patterns and designs on fabric using incised wooden blocks carved by hand. It is one of the earliest methods of textiles printing, originating in East Asia. Alternatives has a large collection of fair trade hand block printed textiles including clothing, scarves, handbags, bedspreads, pillows, table cloths and napkins. We also offer hand carved woodblocks from Afghanistan.
Debra Lindberg, Encaustic/Collage Artist Debra is a local Gainesville encaustic/collage artist whose work is on display at Alternatives. Deb will speak on the art of Encaustics and describe how she uses block prints in her work. With lifelong inspirations and influences such as her gardening and photography Debra's current work incorporates a traditional wax medium and paint process with the inclusion of collage. Try your hand at block printing from 3:00-5:00 pm. We'll have wood blocks, paint, and paper. Kristine Sullivan, a local artist from Shands Arts in Medicine program, will lend ideas and tips on how to make your own block printed crafts including gift wrapping, t-shirts, napkins, and many more!
